NEW BEDS & BEDROOM FURNITURE FOR FOSTER HOME RESIDENTS
We purchased solid wood beds and new chest-of-drawers for the Foster Home that can withstand the wear and tear of the children.
With a maximum of 9 residents at any given time, the Foster Home has a lot of mileage to cover with school drop-offs, activities, community events, sports events, medical appointments, shopping and general errands for the home. A new van providing safe and reliable transportation for the residents was purchased.
A storage shed was built that will be used to store large recreational equipment, left over building and repair supplies such as paint and wood, and gardening supplies that cannot be safely stored outside.
REPLACEMENT OF THE STOVE
The old stove top and the oven were replaced with a more functional industrial stove.
EDUCATIONAL AND CLASSROOM SUPPLIES FOR THE PRESCHOOL AND NURSERY
Ordering preschool supplies every year is essential to running a quality early childhood programme. Our goal is to make sure that all the supplies needed by our teachers in order to create this environment are at their fingertips. These supplies include art supplies, curriculum materials, manipulatives, books, shelving, and other items.
Some of our preschool supplies are ordered locally but when it is more cost effective, the supplies are ordered from overseas. The focus on this year’s order was our classroom shelving as we needed to update the rest of our older furniture. Along with the shelving units we also were able to order art supplies for the year, resource books, and much needed manipulatives. The preschool supplies arrived in July this year, and were put into the classrooms for use in September.
The staff and children were so happy to receive and use their new supplies. Each classroom was able to replace old and damaged items with new manipulatives, games, books, and art supplies. The teachers have also now almost fully outfitted their classrooms with new shelves that should last for many years. Each class was also able to add a wonderful kitchen unit to their dramatic play centres that the children will enjoy for a long time to come. Our art supply closet will also now have enough items to supply 80 children with the items they need in order to create wonderful handmade projects for the entire school year.
The items we were able to purchase using donations help ensure that the children in our care are able to learn in an age appropriate and fun way, while still learning all that is needed to succeed in primary school. With this donation we are able to provide the best learning environment possible for them. Children are able to mimic what they see adults do every day if they are provided with the correct items. The children learn how to share, work through conflict, come up with solutions, and create their own scenarios this way. The teachers are able to use these items to work with the children both in groups and individually whilst also creating lessons that help the children learn in a way that is fun. They are able to take the classroom supplies and devise hands-on activities, games, and projects that will help the children master the developmental steps necessary in order to prepare for and do well in the future.
NEW SUNHATS FOR THE PRESCHOOLERS
Our preschool teachers have an important role in ensuring that children establish healthy sun protection habits during the early years with clothing, hats, sunglasses etc. One way to help the children that attend our preschool safely enjoy the sun is by using sun hats that will protect their eyes and skin.
IPADS FOR THE CLASSROOMS
iPads were purchased that can be used by the teachers during lesson times as an added resource for pictures, videos etc. They can also be used by the children when the teachers set up specific guidelines for them such as using certain apps. There are such apps as Kidztory, Monkey Drum, Leafsnap HD, Trees Pro HD, Weather channel and more that are able to be fully utilised in the classroom to go along with our themes for the month. IPads are also space savers and are much easier to move and use in multiple places than desktop computers.
SHELTER FOR THE NURSERY OUTDOOR AREA
The children in the nursery love to go outdoors. We had a proper shelter built over the deck area outside of the nursery so that the children that are under two years of age are able to enjoy the outdoors even when it is raining.
REPAIR OF ROOFS ON THE COVERED PLAY AREAS
The children love to ride bikes and play outdoors daily. The two most popular spots on the playground are the bicycle track and the large covered play area. The structures were repaired to prevent leaks.
NEW WATER COOLERS
New water coolers were installed in the preschool playground so that the children don’t get dehydrated whilst playing outside.
PURCHASED A NEW PLAYGROUND SET
The children have been so thankful to have all of the equipment to play on during playground time and they are thoroughly enjoying their new playground set.
