In order to ensure that all Foster Home residents have a break away from Foster Home living, and experience a fun & educationally centred summer we like to provide a summer vacation for the children at the Foster Home for 1-2 weeks (in August) and summer camps during the month of July. This also gives us the opportunity to carry out much needed maintenance work whilst the children are not in residence. This year, residents attended a variety of camps including: Creative Camp, which is a large group camp that offers activities such as arts and crafts, reading, video games etc in the morning and field trips in the afternoon; National Trust Camp, Life Guard Training, YMCA Camp, and double Dutch camp. One resident attended Equine Therapy/Horseback riding over the summer. Staff and residents went fishing, played outdoor sports, visited Camana Bay, visited parks, went swimming and played board games. The residents and Staff enjoyed a two week vacation in Cayman Brac this summer. They stayed at Carib Sands Hotel who gave us almost 50% off of their usual fees. The residents enjoyed church, community basketball matches at the local high school, cave exploration, bluff tours, a boat ride around the Bluff, a boat ride to Little Cayman, beach picnics, fishing, beach BBQs, breakfast buffet, ice cream treats, a bonfire with marshmallows to roast, swimming and games in the sea and the pool, kayaking, and table tennis tournaments. The children learned a lot about the history of Cayman Brac through their excursions as well as from their boat Captain, Mr. Sheldon Scott. Staff and residents alike, reported that the break had been enjoyable and educational.
