In order to ensure that all Foster Home residents have a break away from Foster Home living, and experience a fun & educationally centred summer we like to provide a summer vacation for the children at the Foster Home for 1-2 weeks (in August) and summer camps during the month of July. This year, residents attended a variety of camps including: Creative Camp, which is a large group camp that offers free choice activities like arts and crafts, reading, video games etc in the morning and field trips in the afternoon; Academy Football Camp, Jumpstart Camp (Included tutoring in Math and English); YMCA camp; Cowboy Town and National Trust Eco camp. Two teenage residents chose to gain work experience and worked for several weeks during the summer. One chose to work in an Auto-mechanic shop while the other gained some experience in plumbing. They both earned a stipend which allowed them to also learn how to budget their money.
Eight children and four staff members travelled to Jamaica on August 4, 2014, for a two week vacation at the all inclusive Sun Spree Hotel, Jamaica. Whilst there, residents enjoyed the following activities: Buffet Meals, Swimming in the pool/sea, Table tennis and pool, Games room, Kayaking, Sailing, Evening entertainment and dance competitions, Independence Day Celebration, Arts and Crafts.
The Care Manager was present for the first week of the trip, and during that time, residents were taken shopping, to town, sight-seeing and visited Mystic Mountain where they rode bobsleds and sky rides. In the second week, residents travelled to Falmouth for a large open-air market and visited a sea-side amusement park.
