Every year we order educational supplies for the Pre-School and Nursery. These include classroom and art supplies, curriculum materials, books and other items.
We ordered some items overseas that were not available locally and purchased others on island. The overseas equipment arrived in June and was sorted and stored for use for the start of the school year in September.
The children and staff at the Richard Arch Children’s Centre were delighted with their new supplies. Miss Nadine’s pre-school is proud to be part of the pilot programme of pre-schools using the new national curriculum and the supplies bought using the Aall donation will support and enhance these curriculum materials.
Each classroom/age group now has manipulatives, games, puzzles, books, maths, science, and art supplies specific to them. This ensures that the children are able to learn in a way that is age appropriate. Children do most of their learning through play and if we are able to provide them with items such as maths materials, books/puzzles, science objects etc they are able to mimic what theysee adults do every day. The children learn how to share, work through conflict, come up with solutions, and create their own scenarios this way. The teachers are also able to use these items to work with the children in groups and individually and to create lessons that help the children learn in a way that is fun. They are able to take the classroom supplies and devise hands-on activities, games, and projects that will help the children master the developmental steps necessary in order to prepare for and do well in primary school. Our goal is to make sure that the children learn in a way that is appropriate for their age and that will allow them to enjoy their first school experience.
