The R22 refrigerant systems were in desperate need of replacing and updating. From January 2010 all North American air conditioning manufactures were required to begin phasing out the production of all R22 equipment to meet the environmental standard laws. We replaced the air handlers and condensers with new high efficiency Lennox equipment which uses 410A refrigerant, repaired exposed and damaged duct plenums in the attics and re-installed three air handlers in the Foster Home in a horizontal or up flow position. All systems included Ultra Violet Air Purification Systems in the air handlers for improved Indoor Air Quality and to help prevent future mold growth.
The present cost of electrical utilities is approximately $2,500 per month per building, giving an annual cost of approximately $60,000. We hope to reduce our annual running costs for electricity with the more energy efficient systems and to improve the air quality in both buildings.
